Paul Lancaster was born in York and studied Illustration at the University of Brighton, where he developed a lifelong interest in narrative drawing and the relationship between text and image. After graduating, he spent several years living and travelling in Italy, working as a freelance illustrator while sketching architecture, landscapes and everyday street life in sketchbooks that continue to inform his work.

Now based in the English countryside, Paul works as a freelance artist and illustrator, producing book covers, editorial illustration and commissioned artwork. His distinctive style combines confident pen-and-ink drawing with loose watercolour washes, creating images that are at once observational, humane and gently evocative.
